The annual Mary E. Kapp Lecture in Chemistry brings a chemist of international reputation to the department for a two-day visit. This lecture honors Kapp, the first chairperson of the department, who guided the department through its formative years. RamBikes will host an introduction to RVA Bike Share workshop at 1106 W. Broad St. (near the intersection of Broad and Harrison streets) for anyone interested in joining the bike share. Stories are a central way to make sense of the world. For too long in the United States, the story of who is “American” and who deserves to be seen as fully enfranchised has prioritized the narratives of white men. In this virtual talk Jennifer Ho, Ph.D., a professor in the department of Ethnic Studies and director of the Center for Humanities and the Arts at the University of Colorado Boulder, will share her work as a public humanities scholar trying to disrupt narratives of white supremacy. By sharing stories about Asian Americans, including her own family’s path to the United States, Ho will demonstrate how personal histories can help create counter-narratives of antiracism.
