Faculty: How to Find Free Texts for Your Students

Thanks to an ongoing partnership with Barnes and Noble@VCU, VCU Libraries notifies faculty members when a book they are assigning is available free to students as an unlimited user ebook. Although purchasing traditional textbooks falls outside library collection guidelines, VCU Libraries has many books that are already being assigned as course materials. This project allows students to freely access their course materials without faculty having to make any changes to their course plans.

Recreation and Well-Being Women+ on Weights

RecWell offers Women+ on Weights, a small-group program open to women and non-binary individuals, designed to teach participants the foundational methods of resistance training and workout design. RecWell Personal Trainers will utilize strength machines, resistance bands, cable stacks and free weights to build participants’ skill and knowledge of proper technique and progressions.

Black Love Safe Love

This is a research study aiming to receive feedback on a sexual health intervention designed for couples. To be eligible to participate, you have to identify as Black or African American and be 18 to 35 years of age. The study requires participation in a 120-minute session and completion of a questionnaire. Compensation is available.

Smoking Reduction Study for African American Menthol Smokers

Adults who smoke menthol cigarettes and identify as Black/African American are invited to participate in a study that involves electronic cigarette use for six weeks to reduce their smoking. Participants must be willing to visit the study site, receive phone calls and respond to texts and surveys. Compensation is provided. Principal investigators are Andrew Barnes, Ph.D., Health Behavior and Policy, and Caroline Cobb, Ph.D. Psychology.
