The VCU Police Department will host a bike registration and U-Lock table at the Compass. VCU students, faculty and staff can receive a free U-Lock with proof of VCU ID and learn how to register their bicycle. A limited supply of U-Locks will be provided.

'Afghanistan in Crisis'

The VCU Department of Political Science and the Institute for Humane Studies will present "Afghanistan in Crisis," in Room 303, James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave. After 20 years of foreign military intervention, Afghanistan is in the midst of a humanitarian and security crisis. Bike Maintenance 101 With RamBikes
4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
RamBikes will host a Bike Maintenance 101 workshop at 1106 W. Broad St. (near the intersection of Broad and Harrison streets) for all levels of bike riders. This introductory workshop will cover parts of the bicycle and how to discuss them with your mechanic, sights and sounds that indicate a problem and routine maintenance. The workshop will also include cleaning of components and what normal wear and tear looks like.

United2Heal at VCU Warehouse Event

United2Heal at VCU resumes its weekly warehouse volunteer event. At the warehouse, 1210 Bentley St., volunteers organize, sort and track donated medical supplies to prepare for shipment. Rides to the warehouse are provided at the Commons loop from 3-4 p.m. United2Heal is a student-run nonprofit organization that collects surplus medical supplies from local hospitals and clinics to send to countries in need of emergency medical relief.

Health Disparities Organization and PennyAppeal Volleyball Fundraiser Tournament
Saturday, Apr. 2, 2022 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Proceeds from the volleyball tournament fundraiser will go to CARITAS, an nonprofit that aids the homeless population with shelter, food and hygiene kits. The entry fee is $5 per person or $24 for a team of six. The first-place team has the opportunity to win a $60 Chipotle gift card. The event will be held at the Cary Street Gym.

MCC Science Writing Internship Accepting Applications
The inaugural VCU Massey Cancer Center Walter Lawrence Scholars Initiative will be launched in summer 2022 to create a pipeline of interns from Virginia in scientific writing and science communication. Recruiting Now for TEENS, a Virtual Weight-Management Research Program for 12-16-Year-Olds
Are you concerned about your teen’s weight? We can help. TEENS is a research program that includes a four-month family-based lifestyle intervention - all conducted virtually - for teens ages 12 to 16 who are overweight or obese. The program is offered by Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU. It includes weekly, virtual group classes for teens and parents that cover topics such as healthy eating, physical activity and goal-setting. Teens also participate in live exercise sessions conducted online by personal trainers.

Filipino American Heart Health Study
Youssef Roman, Pharm.D., Ph.D., of VCU's School of Pharmacy is conducting an epidemiological study to assess the prevalence and causes of heart diseases in Filipino Americans. This study is for those who consider themselves Filipino with both biological parents of Filipino heritage. The study is funded by VCU's C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research.
