Rare Disease Day Virtual Conference To Be Held Feb. 28

As the rarest month and day, February and its last day recognize people affected by rare diseases. In the United States, 30 million people have any one of 7,000-plus rare diseases, about half of which are children. It takes an average of 7.5 years for these patients to find a diagnosis, and only 5 percent of these diseases have an approved treatment. To observe the day, the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences and the National Institute for Health are sponsoring a virtual conference to raise awareness and initiate dialogue.

VCU's Global Education Office, in partnership with the university's Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, is now accepting applications for the 2022 Harris Manchester College Summer Research Institute to take place July 3-9 at Oxford University.
