Doing Language : Word Work Launch II
5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Come to the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center 601 W. Broad St., to celebrate the launch of nonorien(table), a multimedia installation by artist Riley Hooker commissioned for Doing Language : Word Work. Hooker and artist agustine zegers will discuss relationships to institutional spaces, considering the body as a mechanism to encounter, read, metabolize and pass information. A reception and a viewing of nonorien(table) will follow the discussion.

'Art: Personal & Communal' Lecture by Terry Barrett

VCU's Department of Art Education and the ICA will present a lecture by Terry Barrett, recognized for his writing on photographic media, contemporary art, art criticism and aesthetics, and the teaching of these subjects. Mathula Thangarajh, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor, neurology, Children's Hospital of Richmond, will speak via Zoom at a Discovery Dialogues seminar. The session, hosted by the VCU C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research, is open to all and the research will be presented in lay-friendly language. RamBikes Workshop Series: Chains and Shifting
Thursday, May 12, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
RamBikes will host a workshop covering chains and shifting at 1106 W. Broad St. (near the intersection of Broad and Harrison streets) for anyone wanting to learn more maintenance and problem-solving. The event will cover in-depth chain maintenance and issues with gearing and shifting. The workshop will also cover common problems and fixes with shifters and derailleurs.

Bands at VCU: Come Play With Us
Students at VCU have several opportunities to play music by joining the Pep Band, Drumline and University Band. These groups are open to all VCU students regardless of experience. University Band (APPM 357) is a class that meets each MWF from 3-3:50 p.m. Registration for University Band is now open. Pep Band and Drumline are not courses offered for credit but are open to all VCU students regardless of experience.
