Three Finalists Chosen for VCU's Cabell First Novelist Award

The three finalists have been selected for VCU's Cabell First Novelist Award. The finalists are "Hades, Argentina" by Daniel Loedel (Riverhead Books), "The Five Wounds" by Kirstin Valdez Quade (W.W. Norton) and "The Final Revival of Opal and Nev" by Dawnie Walton (Simon & Schuster). Congratulations to the finalists and a big thank-you to all our volunteer readers. Five-Course Culturally Responsive Leadership Certificate Will Start This Fall

In response to VCU's collective commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice and the professional development of the VCU community, this fall the School of Education will launch a five-course (15 credit) graduate Certificate in Culturally Responsive Leadership. Faculty/Staff Golf League

RecWell’s 2022 Faculty/Staff Golf League will be hosted at newly renovated Belmont Golf Course. The new site includes a driving range, 18-hole putting course, and six-hole par-3 course. An end-of-season banquet will follow immediately after the last day of play. Cost: $60 league fee, $45 weekly green and cart fee. A food and beverage discount is available at the clubhouse. Dates are June 1-July 27.

Recruiting Now for TEENS, a Virtual Weight Management Research Program for 12-15 year-olds

Are you concerned about your teen’s weight? We can help! TEENS is a research program that includes a four-month family-based lifestyle intervention - all conducted virtually - for teens ages 12 to 16 who are overweight or obese. The program is offered by Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU. It includes weekly, virtual group classes for teens and parents that cover topics such as healthy eating, physical activity and goal-setting. Teens also participate in live exercise sessions conducted online by personal trainers.

Volunteers Sought for Ultrasound Study

There is a potentially useful technique measuring blood flow on ultrasound as a way to noninvasively identify extremity compartment syndrome (dangerously elevated pressures in arms or legs). VCU's Dept. of Emergency Medicine plans to perform a study to investigate this hypothesis with 25 healthy volunteers. The study will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
