Any Positive Change

Rams In Recovery will present Any Positive Change, a harm reduction skills and support group facilitated by a peer recovery specialist. This group is geared for VCU students and alumni who are interested in making positive changes to their drinking and/or substance use by reducing negative consequences or through moderation. This space is designed for participants to reflect on their relationship to substances in a judgment-free zone. Virtual weekly meetings will be held on Thursdays through Aug. 11.

Art for Hearts Study: Free Community-Based Research Program for Women Exploring Mental and Physical Health Through Painting

The Equity in Cardiovascular Health Outcomes Lab will hold an Art for Hearts study at the VCU Health Hub at 25th, 1330 N 25th St., Suite A. The study is an eight-part, eight-week program which explores how painting and expressing your thoughts and feelings could help mental health and blood pressure in Black women.

Fall Self-Defense: Aikido Courses
VCU Continuing and Professional Education, in partnership with the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences, will hold face-to-face and online self-defense Aikido courses for one academic credit this fall. Courses at The Fan Dojo begin the week of Aug. 22 and run through early December on Mondays, 8:15-9:15 p.m. (HPEX 121.C90) or Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m. (HPEX 121.C91). A $65 fee goes to the dojo to cover a T-shirt, costs and materials. An asynchronous online course is also available (HPEX 121.C94), or choose a live online short course beginning Sept. 13 on Tuesdays, 7-8:15 p.m. (HPEX 121.C92). Black Love Safe Love
This is a research study aiming to receive feedback on a sexual health intervention designed for couples. To be eligible to participate, you have to identify as Black or African American and be 18 to 35 years of age. The study requires participation in a 120-minute session and completion of a questionnaire. Compensation is available.

Do You Vape?
Individuals between the ages of 18 and 65 who vape nicotine-containing e-cigarettes are invited to participate in a research study that examines the effects of vaping on eating behavior. Two, three-hour laboratory visits, each with a buffet meal, are required. Compensation will be provided. Principal investigators are Andrew Barnes, Ph.D., Department of Health Behavior and Policy, and Caroline Cobb, Ph.D., Department of Psychology.
