VCU Police Back to School Safety Table

The VCU Police Department will host a bike registration and U-Lock table in front of James W. and Frances G. McGlothlin Medical Education Center, 1201 E. Marshall St. VCU students, faculty and staff can receive a free U-Lock with proof of VCU ID and learn how to register a bicycle. A limited supply of U-Locks will be provided. Workshop: Gilman Scholarship Writing

VCU's Global Education Office and National Scholarship Office will host the Gilman Scholarship Writing Workshop in the SGA Senate Chambers, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. The Gilman Scholarship is a federal study abroad scholarship that awards up to $8,000 to Pell-eligible undergraduate students to study or intern abroad. This writing workshop is designed to maximize the chances of receiving a Gilman scholarship and to help participants fully understand the application process. Dinner, Film and Discussion of 'The Hidden Heart' With VCU Transplant Expert

The Health Sciences Library and University Student Commons and Activities will present a screening of the documentary “Hidden Heart: The Story of the First Human Heart Transplant, Hamilton Naki and Christiaan Barnard." The film tells the story of the first human heart transplant (1967) performed in apartheid South Africa and is shown as part of the Common Book program. 'To Tell It Like It Is: A Teach-In'

VCU's Common Book Program and the Department of African American Studies will host "To Tell It Like It Is: A Teach-In" around this year's Common Book, "The Organ Thieves." The event, at the Commons Plaza by the Ram Horns, will feature speakers who will discuss Richmond’s history and give an accounting of the steps Richmonders are taking to disrupt systemic racial and health inequities in RVA.
