Zoë Charlton: Visiting Artist Lecture

VCU's Department of Painting and Printmaking will present a lecture by artist Zoë Charlton, a professor at George Mason University. She creates figure drawings, collages, installations and animations that depict her subject’s relationship to culturally loaded objects and landscapes. Charlton's work has been included in national and international exhibitions, including The Delaware Contemporary (Wilmington), Studio Museum of Harlem (New York) and Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. She received a Pollock-Krasner grant in 2012. The lecture will be in Room 535, Bowe Street Parking Deck, 609 Bowe St.

Funding Opportunities for STEM-Field Research

Olympic Lifting 101: Clean and Snatch

Olympic Weightlifting 101: Clean and Snatch will review the principles of overhead ballistic lifts focusing on the snatch. Driving weight overhead challenges your kinetic chains and metabolic conditioning. This one-day event teaches the basics of these exercises and how to perform them safely. This small group environment provides personalized attention and time for questions. The class will be at the MCV Campus Recreation Center FIT Room.

Migrant Detention Gala Dinner and Art Auction

Students Together Assisting Refugees will host a gala dinner and art auction to raise money for migrants being held at the detention center in Bowling Green. The gala, in Richmond Salons I and II, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave., is free to attend. Food will be catered by Noorani Kabob. 'Flute and Friends': A Faculty Recital by Tabatha Easley

Recreation and Well-Being Foundational Movement Series: Upper Body Push

The Foundational Movement Series focuses on the body's basic movement patterns. A certified personal trainer will review basic biomechanics and teach how to implement these movements into daily exercises. This series will prepare you to program unique and effective workouts to reach your specific goals. VCU Police will host its annual chili cook-off fundraiser to benefit FRIENDS Association for Children on Friday, Oct. 28 at noon. Filipino American Heart Health Study
Youssef Roman, Pharm.D., Ph.D., of VCU's School of Pharmacy is conducting an epidemiological study to assess the prevalence and causes of heart diseases in Filipino Americans. This study is for those who consider themselves Filipino with both biological parents of Filipino heritage. The study is funded by VCU's C.
