VCU's Institute for Inclusion, Inquiry and Innovation (iCubed) will host a symposium with Kristina Hood, Ph.D., an iCubed scholar in the Culture, Race and Health core and an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology. She will discuss her lived experiences and how they are intertwined with her research and scholarship. The event will be held at Barnes and Noble at VCU, 1111 W. Broad St.

Book Reading Group: An Experience for Men of Color

The Men's Multicultural Collective will have a book reading group for Men of Color. The group will read together "A Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor E. Frankl. Reception for Black Fidelity

VCUarts and The Anderson will present Black Fidelity, a showcase of art and performances from Black Art Student Empowerment (BASE), Creative Production Collective (CPC) and BLKinFashion for Black History Month. The opening reception on the top floors of The Anderson, 907 1/2 W. Franklin St., will kick off the exhibition and series of events exploring Afrorealism and Afrofuturism through Feb. 23.

17th Annual Women's Health Research Day

The VCU Institute for Women's Health announces the 17th Annual Women's Health Research Day. This year's plenary symposium, to be held at the Jonah L. Larrick Student Center, 900 Turpin St., is titled Health Equity for Maternal Child Wellness. Researchers at all levels are invited to submit poster abstracts in any research area that focuses on women’s health or sex/gender differences. The abstract deadline is March 10. Like to Read? Be a Part of the Cabell First Novelist Award
This is an open call for all faculty/staff/students interested in reading for the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award. The award honors a debut novel written during the preceding calendar year. Registration Open for Creative Arts Day Camp
The VCUarts Department of Art Education is offering the Creative Arts Day Camp this summer for children rising into grades K-9. Weekly sessions are scheduled from July 10 through Aug. 4 and classes are taught by graduate and undergraduate art education students on the VCU campus. Enrollment for Summer 2023 will open Feb. 1. DHRM Updated Annual Leave Policy
The Virginia Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) has updated its Annual Leave policy (Policy 4.10) for classified employees to include a veteran's period(s) of military service in the calculation of their annual leave accrual rate. Along with applying this provision to classified employees, VCU will adjust the annual leave accrual rate for faculty and the university leave accrual rate for University and Academic Professionals in a similar manner. The calculation of these leave accrual rates will include a veteran's verified service in the military, National Guard or Reserves. Eligible employees must supply a DD-214, RPAM (NGB-23) or NGB-22 Form indicating the dates served and documenting an Honorable Discharge. The policy update took effect Jan. 10 and applies to all eligible current and new employees. Eligible military service includes active duty military, National Guard, reserves (active or inactive duty) and full-time state or Federal National Guard duty. Employees who are eligible to receive this updated accrual rate should contact their department’s HR Professional to submit the required forms via Cherwell, VCU's ticketing system. First-Generation Student Success Research Grants
You First at VCU and the First-Generation Student Success and Research Center invites applications for funding to support scholarly activity focused on (a) first-generation student success and (b) improving Asian American and Pacific Islander student success. Projects may address diversity; underrepresented perspectives; student success barriers (social, academic, health related and financial); new approaches and innovations to enhancing student success; faculty engagement in activities related to student success; and teaching/learning approaches. These awards provide funding of up to $7,500 to faculty.

Black Love Safe Love
This is a research study aiming to receive feedback on a sexual health intervention designed for couples. To be eligible to participate, you have to identity as Black or African American and be 18 to 35 years of age. The study requires participation in a 120-minute session and completion of a questionnaire. Amazon gift card compensation is available. Participation in this research study is voluntary.
