'Night of the Living Dead' and Short Film Screening at Byrd Theatre

In connection with student-curated exhibition “Everything Once Arranged Has Become Scattered,” The Anderson will host a lecture by Pittsburgh-based artist and filmmaker Rebecca Shapass and a screening of her short film “nickel for a silver screen,” along with a screening of the 1968 horror classic “Night of the Living Dead” at the Byrd Theatre, 2908 W. Cary St. The event is free to all VCU students, faculty, and staff.

Smithsonian Curator To Share Insights on Impact and Meaning of Black Music in American Life

Music, the great equalizer, plays a crucial role in shaping the human experience and preserving the history of that experience. African American music originated from a heritage shaped by the transatlantic slave trade and forced enslavement. This music was a means of survival and an agent of social change. Explore the history and impact of Black music in VCU Libraries annual Black History Month Lecture with Dwandalyn Reece, Ph.D., visionary curator and author. 'School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play'

"School Girls" is a biting comedy that follows Paulina and her squad of minions as they compete for the Miss Ghana pageant in 1986. According to a review by the New York Times, "The nasty-teen comedy genre emerges wonderfully refreshed and even deepened by its immersion in a world it never considered.” Performances will be Thursday, Feb. 23 through Sunday, Feb. 26 at W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave. All department mainstages have been designed and built by theater undergraduate students. Tickets are $10 for VCU students, faculty and staff.

Black Muslim Collective Basketball Tournament

In celebration of Black History Month, the Black Muslim Collective will host its second annual charity basketball tournament. ALL funds will be donated to the Children's Defense Fund, a charity that works to provide black and brown children with foundational justice in their communities. In Remembrance of Adam: Rams Against Hazing

'Working Toward Systemic Change'

In the coming months VCU Telecommunications Services will offer virtual training on the Avaya Workplace and MyE911 apps, which allow customers to extend their office number to their remote work site. Callers can reach remote workers on any device by calling their work telephone number, and when placing a call, the caller party will see their work number and not their mobile number. Black Love Safe Love
This is a research study aiming to receive feedback on a sexual health intervention designed for couples. To be eligible to participate, you have to identity as Black or African American and be 18 to 35 years of age. The study requires participation in a 120-minute session and completion of a questionnaire. Amazon gift card compensation is available. Participation in this research study is voluntary.
