Road Closures, 'No Parking' Zones for Monument Avenue 10K
Thousands will take to Richmond’s streets on Saturday, April 22 for the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K. Numerous road closures and “No Parking” zones will be in effect. Events begin at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 22. Street closures and “No Parking” zones go into effect on several streets today, April 21. Vehicles parked along the race course will be towed to accommodate the event. 'Hamilton' Q&A With VCUarts Alum Tyler Fauntleroy

VCUarts Theatre will host members of the "Hamilton" tour currently performing in Richmond at the Altria. Tyler Fauntleroy (BFA ’17) along with fellow cast members Cyndal Gilmore and Devin Tyler Hatch and stage manager Rolando Linares are scheduled to participate in a Q&A at W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave. The event is free and open to the university community.

Mental Health Disparities in Marginalized Groups
12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
VCU's Humanities Research Center and Office of Health Equity will host student moderators from the Health Humanities lab and panelists for a 45-minute online discussion followed by a 45-minute Q&A. They will discuss the clinical, political, historical and media contexts related to mental health; including current perceptions of mental health and mental health care in racial/ethnic minoritized and LGTBQIA+ communities. Math Colloquium: Classical and Modern Invariants of Knots
3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
VCU's Department of Mathematics will present Classical and Modern Invariant of Knots in Room 4169, Grace E. Harris Hall, 1015 Floyd Ave. Kirsten Hendricks, Ph.D., Rutgers University, will introduce knot theory and discuss classical invariants of knots and what kind of geometric information they detect. A modern invariant called Heegaard Floer knot homology from the early 2000s will be introduced, including its properties and relationship to classical invariant. The session will be in Room 4169, Grace E. Harris Hall, 1015 Floyd Ave.

Opening Night of 'Rent' by Jonathan Larson
7:30 p.m.
VCUarts Theatre presents "Rent," the iconic musical that shaped a generation of audiences and taught us all to measure our life in love. Set in the East Village of New York City in 1989, "Rent" is about falling in love, finding your voice and living for today. It was the winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Shows will be today, April 21 through Sunday, April 30 at W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave.

Screening of Ukrainian Documentary 'A House Made of Splinters'

VCU's Department of Political Science will present the Academy Award-nominated Ukrainian documentary film "A House Made of Splinters," focusing on three children affected by the war in eastern Ukraine. The screening will include commentary by the film's directors and producers. It will be shown in Room 4084, Oliver Hall, 1015 W. Main St.

Conservative Principles Are Good for Your Mental Health

Sean Campbell, former New Jersey Community Services Officer on the Council of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, will be speaking on mental health and how to promote good mental health. He will discuss issues within the mental health industry, relying on the government to fix the mental health crisis and how technology has effected mental health. The event will be in Virginia Room B, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave.

VCU Opera and Symphony To Present Mozart's 'The Magic Flute'
Friday, Apr. 28, 2023 from 7 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
VCU Opera and Symphony will present Mozart's opera "The Magic Flute" at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave. It concerns the search for truth and reason, love and enlightenment. As an allegory, the opera follows the adventures of Prince Tamino and the bird-catcher Papageno on their quest to rescue Pamina. Set in ancient Egypt, Mozart's masterpiece underscores childlike simplicity, emotional complexity, dark foreboding and hilarious comedy. The free production will also be performed at 4 p.m. April 30.

Recreation and Well-Being Aquatics Water Safety Instructor Certification
This course will prepare participants to plan and teach courses in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program. Courses include Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim and Safety Training for Swim Coaches. This blended learning course contains a combination of digital and in-person instruction. Online training must be completed prior to participating in the in-person skills sessions. Classes will be held May 23-June 8 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-4 p.m.

Bands at VCU
Registration is now open for the University Band (APPM 357). University Band is a one-credit music class open to all VCU students and faculty. University Band meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3-3:50 p.m. The band performs one concert per semester.
