ICA Live: Peni Candra Rini
Friday, May 19, 2023 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Master Javanese singer and composer Peni Candra Rini will perform new and experimental works for voice, electronics and gamelan in the ICA’s Royall Forum, in collaboration with Andy McGraw, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Chair of Music at the University of Richmond, and members of Gamelan Raga Kusuma. In this performance, Peni uses both traditional and experimental music and theater to present a modern interpretation of the myth of ocean goddess Nyai Rara Kidul. The performance will be at VCU's Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St. RSVP at the following URL.

VCU's National Scholarship Office will host a free workshop series on May 22-26 from noon-2 p.m. that will prepare participants to tackle major applications for postgraduate scholarships. Led by the NSO staff, the workshop will address topics such as how to write about yourself, how to connect past experiences and future goals, how to select recommenders and how to speak to the values and mission of the award for which you are applying.
