Notices
Protect Yourself Against UV Rays, Overheating
July is UV Protection and Heat Awareness month. Exposure to UV rays is the most common cause of skin cancer. To protect against UV rays, always use a sunscreen with a minimum SPF15 when outside. Whenever possible find a shady spot and wear sunglasses and protective clothing. In addition to UV exposure, it is hot out there. When working in the heat you should follow the same guidelines for UV protection as well as stay hydrated by drinking eight ounces of cool water every 20 minutes, take rest breaks and build a tolerance to working in the heat. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 658 people succumb to heat-related injuries each year. Questions: Email occsafety@vcu.edu.
