Supernatural Thriller 'Let the Right One In' at Singleton Center

VCUarts Theater will present a supernatural thriller based on the award-winning book and film. Oskar is a bullied, lonely teenage boy living in 1980s rural Virginia. A series of sinister killings rocks his small community. Eli, the young girl who has just moved in next door, doesn’t go to school and never leaves the apartment by day. Sensing in each other a kindred spirit, the two become devoted friends. What Oskar doesn’t know is that Eli has been a teenager for a very long time. Performances will be Thursday, Oct. 5 through Sunday, Oct. 8 at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave.

Louisa Penfold, Ph.D.

The Department of Art Education at VCUarts will host visiting speaker Louisa Penfold, Ph.D., a lecturer and co-chair of Arts and Learning at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Her research and practice focus on contemporary art, early childhood education and play across schools, museums and public spaces. Penfold will lead a free Cardboard Workshop that is open to the VCU community and educators in Central Virginia. The event will be at the lobby of the Murry N. DePillars Building, 1000 W. Broad St.

Recreation and Well-Being Women+ on Weights Session Two
RecWell’s Women+ on Weights for Weights Fall Session Two is open to women and individuals who are non-binary and/or gender non-conforming who are looking to learn foundational methods of resistance training and workout design. A certified personal trainer will help with the use of strength machines, resistance bands, cable stacks and free weights to build skill and knowledge of proper technique and progressions, as well as confidence in the weight room. The program will be held Oct. 9 to Nov. 16.

Participants Are Invited for Study Examining the Impact of Exercise on Cardiovascular Health
This study is inviting individuals between the ages of 20 and 24 with poor sleep quality. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of aerobic and resistance exercise on cardiovascular responses and vascular inflammation. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Lee Franco, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.
