Recreation and Well-Being Lifeguard Certification

This class will prepare participants to prevent, recognize, respond to and care for aquatic and breathing/cardiac emergencies that may occur in or around the water. Learn critical thinking and communication skills that are crucial to effective emergency response. This course meets the requirements for lifeguard employment at many pool facilities but may not meet requirements for waterfront, water park or specialty facilities. RecWell’s Group Exercise program will present Les Mills Launch Week Tuesday, Oct. 24 to Thursday, Oct. 26. Participants will experience the latest versions of Les Mills group exercise formats. New music and routines from Les Mills GRIT and BodyPump will be offered multiple times throughout the week. VIVA Renews Contract for Springer Journals Through 2025

VIVA, the academic library consortium of Virginia, has negotiated a two-year agreement (Jan. 1, 2024-Dec. 31, 2025) with Springer-Nature Group for statewide access to Springer journals. This action eliminates the immediate need for any Springer journal cancellations by VCU Libraries. As part of the agreement, the article processing charge of $3,544 per open access article will be covered for authors at Virginia institutions.

Individuals With Blood Pressures Between 120/80 - 130/90 mmHg Are Invited to Participate in a Research Study

We are inviting male and female participants with elevated blood pressure between the ages of 18-45 years to participate in a study to examine how the time of day that you eat affects your blood pressure, blood vessel function and kidney function. This study involves a screening visit to determine eligibility; two single day interventions where you will eat a meal that we provide in the morning or late at night; and two visits to our laboratory. The study involves collection of blood, saliva and urine samples, in addition to blood pressure, blood vessel and body composition assessments. The study is conducted at VCU Kinesiology and Health Sciences Building on the Monroe Park Campus. Participants will be compensated for their time completing the study.
