The Humanities Research Center will present a Meet VCU Authors event with SJ Sindu, Tamil author and assistant professor, VCU English. Graphic novels and comics have been growing in scope and popularity over the past 20 years. The discussion will include the Sindu's graphic novel, "Shakti," and the author's forthcoming graphic projects, the publication process at major trade presses and craft strategies for visual storytelling and how it differs from traditional prose. 'The Lives Between the Lines' Film Screening and Discussion

VCU's Humanities Research Center and Office of Health Equity will present a film screening and discussion of "The Lives Between the Lines," a documentary which tells the story behind the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers at the University of Virginia. A facilitated conversation will follow the screening including a panel including the film's director, Erik Duda, members of the descendants of the enslaved laborers at UVA and members of the representative descendant council on VCU’s East Marshall Street Well Project. VCU's Department of Craft/Material Studies will present a visiting artist lecture by Caroline Ladau in Room 305, Bowe Street Parking Deck, 609 Bowe St. Landau (b.1991) is a queer, multidisciplinary artist who works with glass, video and paint. Over the past six years, Landau has worked with the Archiving Ice Series. Initially taking place in Svalbard, Norway, she replicated ice “bergie-bits” using wax and a camping stove.

The Department of Interior Design at VCUarts will present architect Simon Jacobsen as he discusses the works of Jacobsen Architecture, founded by his father Hugh Newell Jacobsen, from the perspective of interior space and concept. The work of Jacobsen Architecture spans Modernism in America and is featured in a new monograph, American Modern Home, rated as one of Elle Decor's 50 Best Coffee Table Books, offering "stunning examples of their low-key and sophisticated American homes." University Counseling Services Victim Advocacy Program has a new name: Survivor Support Services. Recreation and Well-Being First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications for October
The American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course is open for VCU Students and RecWell Members looking to learn how to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies. Study Abroad Snapshots - A James Branch Cabell Big Screen Photo Exhibition
In celebration of the annual Fall Global Learning Fair on Tuesday, Sept. 26, the VCU Global Education Office and VCU Libraries will present Study Abroad Snapshots, an exhibit on the James Branch Cabell Library Big Screen, 901 Park Ave. These photos are snapshots taken by VCU students during their experience abroad during spring and summer 2023. Calling for Research Participants
We are looking for healthy, nonsmoking participants who would be willing to provide a blood sample for a research project investigating the immune function of blood cells of patients with cystic fibrosis. We are looking for participants without cystic fibrosis as a control group for the study. In addition to the blood sample, we will ask you questions about your health and medications, but no information will be gathered from your medical records. Participants will be compensated.
