The VCU Writing Center Book Club will meet in Room 205, James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave. The book club provides a safe and stress-free space to meet other students who love reading and talking about books. This first meeting will feature a discussion about the books the club will read in the fall, such as "Eight Perfect Murders" by Peter Swanson and "Before the Coffee Gets Cold" by Toshikazu Kawagucgi.

VCU Libraries Social Justice Lecture: Coloring the Conservation Conversation

Ornithologist and wildlife ecology professor at Clemson University J. Drew Lanham, Ph.D., will deliver VCU Libraries’ 2023 Social Justice Lecture. Lanham writes and speaks about the implicit and overt racism people of color often face when engaging with their natural surroundings. Recreation and Well-Being Ram Power Challenge

RecWell invites students and RecWell members to test their strength in the Fall 2023 Ram Power Challenge. Certified personal trainers will help participants learn the basics of the squat, bench press and deadlift. Two chances will be given to participants to test their strength on each lift. 'The Borders of AIDS' and the Uses of Disease

In this Humanities Research Center Speaker Series event, Karma Chávez will discuss her book "The Borders of AIDS," which explores the ways that HIV/AIDS became a justification to erect national and cultural borders during the early years of the pandemic. She will also connect lessons learned from the AIDS crisis to contemporary manifestations in the times of COVID-19. Recreation and Well-Being Personal Training Packages
RecWell’s Fall 2023 personal training packages are available to VCU students and RecWell members. Participants are guided through an exercise program customized to meet their specific needs and goals by a certified personal trainer. One-on-one and Buddy training packages of three, six, 12, or 18-hour-long sessions will be offered. All new clients are required to complete the three-session introductory package.

'Morgan Bassichis: More Little Ditties'
VCU's Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St., will present the first institutional exhibition by comedic performer Morgan Bassichis through Jan. 7, 2024. The artist brings together performance, video and text-based works created both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic that mark time, loss, desire, disappointment and joy through playful musical gestures.

Participants Are Invited for Study Examining the Impact of Exercise on Cardiovascular Health
This study is inviting individuals between the ages of 20 and 24 with poor sleep quality. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of aerobic and resistance exercise on cardiovascular responses and vascular inflammation. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Lee Franco, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.
