VCU to Test Emergency Communications at Noon Wednesday
VCU will conduct a full test of its emergency communications and alerting systems, including outdoor sirens, on the Monroe Park and MCV campuses and at the VCU Police Department’s headquarters, 224 E. Broad St., at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 6. The test will include a one-minute siren activation, along with text messages, Alertus boxes, mass email, digital signs, desktop alerts, the LiveSafe app, the VCU Mobile app, the VCU Facebook page and VCU Alert website information — all part of a multichannel system for communicating emergency information to the university and the surrounding community. 'Paul Chan: Breathers'

"Paul Chan: Breathers" is the first major U.S.-based museum exhibition in 15 years of works by artist, writer and publisher Paul Chan, born in Hong Kong in 1973. Chan, who was recently awarded the 2022 MacArthur Fellowship, came to prominence in the early 2000s with moving image works that touched on aspects of war, religion, pleasure and politics. The exhibit will be at VCU's Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St., through Jan. 7.

Public Humanities Here and Now: Richmond Cemetery Collaboratory

'Morgan Bassichis: More Little Ditties'

VCU's Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St., will present the first institutional exhibition by comedic performer Morgan Bassichis through Jan. 7, 2024. The artist brings together performance, video and text-based works created both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic that mark time, loss, desire, disappointment and joy through playful musical gestures.

Recreation and Well-Being Lifeguard Training
This class will prepare participants to prevent, recognize, respond to and care for aquatic and breathing/cardiac emergencies. Participants will also learn critical thinking and communication skills that are crucial to effective emergency response. This course meets the requirements for lifeguard employment at many pool facilities but may not meet requirements for waterfront, water park or specialty facilities. Recreation and Well-Being Intramural Sports Semester Early Fall Badminton Tournament
RecWell will host its first Intramural Badminton Tournament of the fall on Monday, Sept. 25 from 6-11 p.m. at Cary Street Gym, 101 S. Linden St. Registration runs through Thursday, Sept. 21. Participants must purchase a $10 season pass that allows access to register for all Intramural Sports activities throughout the semester.

Individuals With Blood Pressures Between 120/80 - 130/90 mmHg Are Invited to Participate in a Research Study
We are inviting male and female participants with elevated blood pressure between the ages of 18-45 years to participate in a study to examine how the time of day that you eat affects your blood pressure, blood vessel function and kidney function. This study involves a screening visit to determine eligibility; two single-day interventions where you will eat a meal that we provide in the morning or late at night; and two visits to our laboratory. The study involves collection of blood and urine samples, in addition to blood pressure, blood vessel, and body composition assessments. The study is conducted at VCU Kinesiology and Health Sciences Building on the Monroe Park Campus. Exploring Parenting and Race: VCU's AYA Research Team Needs You
Be part of VCU's AYA Research Team's ongoing study. We're discussing race-conscious parenting with expecting Black parents and those raising Black children (ages 1-5).
