Constitution Day: Treason, Sedition and Subversive Activities
Tuesday, Sep. 19, 2023 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
During the 2023 VCU Libraries’ annual Constitution Day commemoration, Political Science Associate Professor John Aughenbaugh, Ph.D., and Public Affairs Librarian Stephani (Nia) Rodgers will discuss treason, sedition and subversive activities as they relate to the U.S. Constitution and legal precedent. The format will be conversational with an opportunity for the audience to ask questions. The event, to be in the lecture hall at James Branch Cabell Library, 901 Park Ave., will be free and open to the public.

Lecture by Visiting Artist Caroline Ladau

VCU's Department of Craft/Material Studies will present a visiting artist lecture by Caroline Ladau in Room 305, Bowe Street Parking Deck, 609 Bowe St. Landau (b.1991) is a queer, multidisciplinary artist who works with glass, video and paint. Over the past six years, Landau has worked with the Archiving Ice Series. Initially taking place in Svalbard, Norway, she replicated ice “bergie-bits” using wax and a camping stove.

Recreation and Well-Being Lifeguard Certification
This class will prepare participants to prevent, recognize, respond to and care for aquatic and breathing/cardiac emergencies that may occur in or around the water. Learn critical thinking and communication skills that are crucial to effective emergency response. This course meets the requirements for lifeguard employment at many pool facilities but may not meet requirements for waterfront, water park or specialty facilities. The class will be held Oct. 27-29. Register by noon Oct. 20.

Recreation and Well-Being Aquatics Private and Semi-Private Swim Lessons
Private swimming lessons and semi-private swimming lessons are available to VCU Students and RecWell members ages 2 and older. Lessons are taught by certified Water Safety Instructors and are available in packages of two, four and six sessions. Sessions can be 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length. Registration is ongoing to Nov. 30.

Refugee Youth - Share Your Story
Hilary Stim is a researcher from the VCU Department of Social Work who has committed her career to leveraging and supporting refugee voices across the U.S. to create policy and practice change in educational spaces. She is seeking to speak with refugee youth between 13-22 years who are enrolled in a public school to understand the experience of students from the students themselves. The conversations are fully confidential and will be held virtually. Compensation is available to all participants.

Are You Stressed? Participate in a Stress Reduction Study
The VCU Wellbeing Lab invites you to participate in a research study on two stress reduction programs for undergraduate students.
