Loneliness and Community: Empathy, Marginalization and Pride a Common Book Speaker Series Panel

Rose Salane Visiting Artist Lecture

VCU's Department of Painting and Printmaking will present a visiting artist lecture by Rose Salane at the Murry N. DePillars Building, Room 301 (1000 W. Broad St.). Salane was born in 1992 in New York City where she currently lives and works. Using collections of quotidien objects as her entry point, the artist excavates the systems of evaluation, exchange and organization that shape urban life.

GDES Designer-In-Residence Presentation

Rosen Eveleigh, this year's visiting Designer-In-Residence, VCU's Department of Graphic Design, will give a presentation in the theater of the University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. Eveleigh is a graphic designer, researcher and teacher interested in the historic and methodological relationship between graphic design and queer culture. Eveleigh works with artists, archives, cultural institutions, curators, editors and publishers to produce books, graphic identities, typefaces, websites, texts and other works.

Nationwide Emergency Alert Test: Today, Oct. 4
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct nationwide tests of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). Both tests are scheduled to begin at approximately 2:20 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 4. The WEA test will be directed to all cellphones. The EAS test will be sent to radios and televisions. Testing ensures that systems are an effective means of warning the public about nationwide emergencies.

New 2024-2025 FAFSA Form Will Be Available in December
Major changes and improvements are coming to the FAFSA form: stay informed and receive up-to-date notifications and information from Student Financial Services. The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Federal Student Aid will be hosting a virtual session on federal financial aid eligibility, how to create an FSA ID, key changes and how to complete the 2024-2025 FAFSA form on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. A virtual demonstration on how to complete the FAFSA will be held at 2 p.m.

L&L Friendship Study Abroad Scholarship Is Now Open
VCU's Global Education Office recently announced a $2.5 million anonymous donation in support of study abroad among students with financial need: the L & L Friendship Fund. The inaugural L & L scholarship application is now open to students planning a credit-bearing study abroad experience during winter break 2024, spring 2024, spring break 2024 or summer 2024. The fall application deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 10 and students can apply on the Rams Scholarship Hub.

The VCU Wellbeing Lab invites you to participate in a research study on two stress reduction programs for undergraduate students. CVS Program Provides Health Care Shadowing Opportunity
The Compromiso, Valores, Servicio (CVS) Program is a pathway program in the spring and early summer offered to Spanish-speaking bilingual students ages 18 and up who are interested in serving as members of a health care team. The program gives students mentorship and experience serving as medical interpreters while exploring a career in pharmacy. Each participant will receive $500 per semester to cover any program costs. Deadline to apply for Spring 2024 is Nov. 1, 2023.
