The Elske v.P. Smith Distinguished Lecture: Carolyn Eastman, Ph.D.

Our collective experience with the Covid pandemic revealed the racial, class and gendered effects of the disease on the world's population. Did earlier epidemics have similar effects? Carolyn Eastman, Ph.D., VCU Department of History, will reveal the surprising results of yellow fever on different populations, which cycled through American cities during the 1790s. This talk casts new light on how we address disease and who is deputized to serve on the front lines. The lecture will be in the Richmond Salons, University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave.

Become a Mindful Ambassador

RecWell’s Mindful Ambassador Program invites students, faculty and staff to a workshop about various types of meditation, belly breathing, mindful posture and special considerations for leading meditation with others. Those who complete the workshop will receive additional mindfulness resources to lead meditation in the community along with a sticker to symbolize leadership. Constitution Day Naturalization Ceremony
Monday, Sep. 18, 2023 at 1 p.m.
VCU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend a Constitution Day naturalization ceremony at the Stuart C. Siegel Center, 1200 W. Broad St. At the ceremony, an estimated 600 individuals will take the Oath of Allegiance and become American citizens. Sanjiv Yajnik of Capital One will deliver a keynote address and VCU Provost Fotis Sotiropoulos will give remarks. Judge David J. Novak of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia will preside over the ceremony.

The next step is the permanent deletion of those old sites, which is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Sept. 20. Flu Immunization Clinics for VCU Faculty and Staff

Support Rams in Recovery for National Recovery Month
Rams in Recovery hosts virtual and in-person events that support students seeking recovery from substance use disorder. The organization hopes to convert the Recovery Clubhouse into a 24-hour café where community members can gather for lectures, open mic nights and conversation.
