Special Collections and Archives Experiential Learning Activity
Wednesday, Apr. 3, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Health Sciences Library will offer a hands-on experience designed to explore a Civil War-era amputation procedure. Participants will be challenged to correctly arrange the surgeon’s tools of amputation in the correct order for the procedure. Students who correctly guess the order will win a prize after spinning the library's new prize wheel. The session will be in the lobby of the library, 509 N. 12th St.

Understanding Bias and Prejudice

Research on unconscious bias shows how the brain takes shortcuts that can be informed by socialized biases. Beginning with the roots of prejudice, this interactive presentation demonstrates its progression from thoughts, to words, to actions. Using case studies, discussion and real-life examples, this workshop will ask participants to consider the ways in which prejudice stands in the way of creating an inclusive organization. VCU Choirs Spring Concert

Participants Are Invited For Study Examining Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Exercise
This study is seeking individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 years who have GAD or symptoms of GAD. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of GAD symptoms on blood vessel function during acute exercise and in response to exercise training. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Ryan Garten, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.

Participants Invited for a Study Examining Psychosocial Stress and Cardiovascular Health in Sexual and Gender Minority Adults
This study is inviting individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as LGBTQ. We are also inviting individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as cis-gender heterosexual for the control group. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of chronic psychosocial stress and vascular inflammation to an acute mental challenge. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus.
