St. Philip Hospital and School of Nursing opened in 1920 as a segregated institution to provide care for Richmond’s Black community and to prepare Black nurses. Objects and Methods Lecture Series: Kelly Walters

The Department of Graphic Design will host Kelly Walters as part of the department’s Objects and Methods Lecture Series. The event will be in the University Student Commons theater, 907 Floyd Ave. Walters is the director of the BFA Communication Design program at Parsons School of Design in New York. As an interdisciplinary designer and scholar, her work engages with histories of Black American print publishing, material culture and archival practice. Her publications include "Black, Brown + Latinx Design Educators" and "The Black Experience in Design."

Recreation and Well-Being Private and Semiprivate Swim Lessons
Private swimming lessons and semiprivate swimming lessons are available to VCU students and RecWell members ages 2 and older. Lessons are taught by certified water safety instructors and are available in packages of two, four and six sessions. Sessions can be 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length. Participants Invited for a Study Examining Psychosocial Stress and Cardiovascular Health in Sexual and Gender Minority Adults
This study is inviting individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as LGBTQ. We are also inviting individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as cis-gender heterosexual for the control group. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of chronic psychosocial stress and vascular inflammation to an acute mental challenge. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. The principal investigator is Lee Franco, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.

Participants Are Invited For Study Examining the Impact of Cold Water Immersion on Symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder
This study is seeking individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 years who have GAD or symptoms of GAD. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of cold water immersion on GAD symptoms with specific focus on blood vessel function. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. The principal investigator is Ryan Garten, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.
