When Identity Safety Meets Implicit Bias: Myths, Evidence and Solutions

Have you ever wondered how implicit biases show up on campus and in classrooms, impacting both educators and students? Social psychologist and former congressional fellow Luis Rivera, Ph.D., professor of psychology at Rutgers University and director of the Rutgers Implicit Social Cognition Lab, will offer a presentation on implicit bias-in-action, highlighting current research, as well as offering solutions to this problem, with a focus on identity-safe classrooms. Anchors of the Soul: A Celebration of Black Composers
Wednesday, Apr. 10, 2024 at 7 p.m.
The Vox Concordia, Black Awakening Gospel Choir and Commonwealth Singers will perform songs around a theme delving into the metaphorical journey from turmoil to tranquility, using the anchor as a symbol of stability and faith. The concert portrays music as a beacon of hope and a steadfast anchor amidst life's storms, guiding the audience to a place of inner peace and serenity. The concert will be held in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall, W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave. All students with VCU ID will be admitted for $5. General admission is $10.

VCU Residential Life and Housing is accepting applications for 2024 RAM Camp student leaders, who will serve as co-facilitators for the week-long leadership camp for incoming students.
