Understanding Bias and Prejudice
Monday, Apr. 8, 2024 from 10 a.m. to noon
Research on unconscious bias shows how the brain takes shortcuts that can be informed by socialized biases. Beginning with the roots of prejudice, this interactive presentation demonstrates its progression from thoughts, to words, to actions. Using case studies, discussion and real-life examples, this workshop asks participants to consider the ways in which prejudice stands in the way of creating an inclusive organization. Real Life Film Series: 'Out on a Limb'

This documentary explores how prosthetic science challenges conventional thinking about limb loss. The film showcases cutting-edge research in robotics and neuroscience driving the creation of innovative prosthetic devices. Additionally, it shares personal experiences of amputees who benefit from these innovations. The documentary highlights the potential of this transformative science to improve the quality of life for individuals with limb loss, particularly children and veterans who face unique challenges and opportunities. Brain Health After Breast Cancer Chemotherapy and in Healthy Volunteers
Chemotherapy may impact memory, attention, processing speed, multitasking and problem-solving. We hope to improve our understanding of these difficulties and identify women who are at the most risk for having them. We are seeking healthy female volunteers (35-68 years) free of MRI contraindications. Participation involves two study visits 12-18 months apart. Visits include brain MRI and online assessments.
