Saddle Up for Success: Design Your Sophomore Year (In-Person)

Calling all sophomores. Design thinking is helpful in tackling thorny, questions that don’t have one right answer. Feeling unsure about exactly what you want during your time at VCU? Did your plans change recently? This workshop, co-hosted by First and Second Year Experiences and the da Vinci Center, will provide an overview of the design-thinking framework and give you a chance to practice some of the techniques for your next year at VCU. Stepping In 4 Respect: Creating a Culture of Respect and Inclusion
Thursday, Sep. 12, 2024 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Through video scenarios, interactive debriefing discussions and improvisation experiences, participants will discuss and practice responses to the scenarios in a safe and supportive environment. Learn how to address discrimination and other mistreatment in a clinical and learning environment. While the training has more of a clinical focus, the skills presented are adaptable to non-clinical settings. The session will be in Room 5-101, James W. and Frances G. RecWell’s Unlock Your Fitness: A Journey Through Equipment Orientation
Embarking on a fitness journey can feel a bit overwhelming, but RecWell’s nationally accredited personal trainers are ready to make that first step exciting and achievable. Learn about the equipment at the Cary Street Gym fitness center and how RecWell members work with trainers to develop programs that help them reach their fitness goals. Participants Are Invited for Study Examining the Impact of Acute and Chronic Stress on Cardiovascular Health
Individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as Black or African American are invited to participate in a research study examining the effect of acute and chronic stress on cardiovascular and inflammation responses to an acute mental challenge. Raffle drawings for financial compensation will be conducted. This study will take place at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Lee Franco, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.
