Visiting Artist Lecture by Grace Whiteside

VCU's Department of Craft/Material Studies will present a visiting artist lecture by alumnus Grace Whiteside (BFA '17) in the Murry N. DePillars Building, second-floor critique room 238, 1000 W. Broad St. Whiteside is an interdisciplinary artist who works between glass, performance and video art. Whiteside sifts through experimental theater works and animated sculptures, highlighting the ambiguity of glass’s queer molecular structure that fluctuates between solid and liquid states.

Lecture: 'Asexuality and (Asian American) Masculinities' by Yo-Ling Chen

This lecture takes a comparative/transnational perspective to explore the trans and female masculinities between the American majority and Asian (American) masculinities. Yo-Ling Chen is an independent scholar, writer, translator and activist; a co-editor of Global Asexualities and Aromanticisms and the founding editor/translator at Queer Margins. Chen won a 2024 Frontline Nonfiction Translation Fellowship and co-leads the Transpacific Taiwan Transgender Studies Research Collective (2024-2025). Amy, a formerly enslaved Black woman, gained her freedom and established a homestead in the Appalachian mountains during a time in American history when she was dehumanized for the color of her skin and devalued for being female. RecWell Adult Beginner Swim Lessons
RecWell offers adult beginner swim lessons intended for older teens and adults who are comfortable in the water but wish to learn basic skills such as floating, treading water and coordination for swimming strokes.
