Ivy's Mental Health Series: 'Waiting to Exhale'

Ivy Bell, VCU Health Hub certified community health worker, has created a mental health event series that dives into helpful strategies for mental health awareness month. The fourth event of this series is "Waiting to Exhale." Come relieve stress with games, puzzles and more while enjoying snacks and music. A sound bath is a form of meditation that guides you into a deep relaxation state while enveloped in ambient sound. Waves of soothing, echoing sound from crystal bowls, gongs and various instruments assist the mind-body with stress and fatigue. This is an in-person session by the fountain in Monroe Park. Equity and Access Services Shares New ADA Title II Rule on Digital Accessibility
Title II of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) requires state and local government entities such as VCU to ensure that all services, programs and activities are accessible to people with disabilities. The Department of Justice recently published its new rule and accompanying New Rule Fact Sheet which revised requirements regarding digital accessibility. These updates will affect VCU units whose work intersects with students and the public. Compliance must begin on April 24, 2026.

Aquatics Adult Beginner Swim Lessons Spring Session 1
RecWell offers adult beginner swim lessons intended for older teens and adults who are comfortable in the water but wish to learn basic skills such as floating, treading water and coordination for swimming strokes. Lessons will primarily be taught in shallow water, but participants will practice supporting themselves in deeper water throughout the class. Session 1 runs June 2-25, Mondays adn Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Classes will be at the VCU Aquatic Center, 101 S. Linden St. Register at the following URL between May 1-30.

Participants Are Invited for Study Examining the Impact of Acute and Chronic Stress on Cardiovascular Health
Individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as Black or African American are invited to participate in a research study examining the effect of acute and chronic stress on cardiovascular and inflammation responses to an acute mental challenge. Raffle drawings for financial compensation will be conducted. This study will take place at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. This study is inviting individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as LGBTQ. We are also inviting individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as cis-gender heterosexual for the control group. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of chronic psychosocial stress and vascular inflammation to an acute mental challenge.
