VCU Visiting Writers Series: 2024 Levis Reading Prize

Elisa Gonzalez, the 2024 Levis Reading Prize winner, will read from for her poetry collection "Grand Tour." The prize is awarded annually for the best debut or second book of poetry published in the previous calendar year and is chosen by the M.F.A. in Creative Writing program at VCU. "Grand Tour," Gonzalez’ debut full-length poetry collection, was published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in 2023 and was named one of the best books of that year by The New Yorker. 'Flute and Friends' Faculty Recital by Tabatha Easley

The VCU Department of Music will present a faculty recital by flute professor Tabatha Easley in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall in the W.E. The American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course is open for VCU students, RecWell members, non-member faculty/staff and the Richmond community. Learn how to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies. Participants will earn a certificate that satisfies OSHA requirements for workplace First Aid/CPR/AED training in non-health care settings. RecWell Adult Beginner Swim Lessons
RecWell offers adult beginner swim lessons intended for older teens and adults who are comfortable in the water but wish to learn basic skills such as floating, treading water and coordination for swimming strokes. Lessons will primarily be taught in shallow water, but participants will practice supporting themselves in deeper water throughout the class. Research Study on Stress Experiences in Young Black Women Ages 18-39
The EqCHO (Equity in Cardiovascular Health Outcomes) Lab at VCU is conducting a study on the stress experiences of young Black women. We would like to use the information gained from this study to develop a stress reduction program to improve cardiovascular health among young African American women. Resources will be provided on stress and health management. The study will take place over two consecutive weeks. Compensation is available.
