Henna for Hope Fundraiser
12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
In conjunction with Domestic Violence Month, Soteria will hold a Henna for Hope fundraising event. The organization will have henna-style tattoos in the University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. All proceeds will go to Ashiyaana, which serves South Asians with comprehensive and culturally sensitive case management. Their programs include assisting domestic violence victims, children, youth and seniors.

'Tales of Koehler Hollow: An African American Family in Rural Virginia'

Brooks, Ph.D., recounts stories from her family history, starting with her great-great-grandmother, Amy, through her extended family and their rural life. This family story represents a microcosm of the African American experience in southern Virginia from the mid-19th century to the present. Stepping In 4 Respect: Creating a Culture of Respect and Inclusion

Learn to support your School of Medicine colleagues and respond to situations where you witness discriminatory behavior. Participants will learn how to respond appropriately to discriminatory behavior in three different scenarios: when a patient or family member exhibits discriminatory behavior; when a team member exhibits discriminatory behavior and when a visitor to our health system exhibits discriminatory behavior. Research Study on Stress Experiences in Young Black Women Ages 18-39
The EqCHO (Equity in Cardiovascular Health Outcomes) Lab at VCU is conducting a study on the stress experiences of young Black women. We would like to use the information gained from this study to develop a stress reduction program to improve cardiovascular health among young African American women. Resources will be provided on stress and health management. The study will take place over two consecutive weeks. Compensation is available. McKenzie Green, Ph.D., is leading a research study titled Project D.R.E.A.M.S. (Daily Racial Experiences Among Multiracial-Black Students). This study aims to explore the relationship between racial stress and well-being for Multiracial-Black students (one Black parent and one non-Black parent), The research involves completing surveys and we are seeking Multiracial-Black individuals aged 13 to 24 in the U.S. to participate.
