Rare Disease Month: Developing Treatments for Rare Diseases

VCU's Department of Painting and Printmaking will present a lecture by visiting artist Francheska Alcántara (MFA ’19) in Oliver Hall, Physical Science Wing, Room 1024, 1015 W. Main St. Alcántara's work lays at the intersection of gesture, ritual and myth within the Black diasporic imagination. Alcántara reworks, repurposes and transforms artifacts such as brown paper bags, Hispano cuaba soap, dominoes and organic residues through sewing, folding, cutting, burning and layering.

Prevention Resources and Education for Parents and Caregivers (PREP)

The PREP program provides addiction treatment and behavioral health care. The program, administered by Caron, is designed for parents and caregivers of children in elementary, middle and high school. PREP covers youth trends, empowers parents and caregivers with effective communication skills, discusses how to set up clear rules and consequences regarding substance abuse, evaluates factors to help protect children from substance use and provides local resources. Participants Are Invited For Study Examining the Impact of Cold Water Immersion on Symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder
This study is seeking individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 years who have GAD or symptoms of GAD. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of cold water immersion on GAD symptoms with specific focus on blood vessel function. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Ryan Garten, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.
