Artist Reception for 'Unmoored' (From Biological Facts)
5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The show "Unmoored" features work by transgender artist Ryder Paley, an undergraduate student in the Craft and Material Studies program focusing mainly on ceramic, metal and textile art. The work will be in the Murry N. DePillars Building, 1000 W. Broad St., from Monday, Feb. 24 to Saturday, March 1. Ryder's practice explores repression, transformation, destruction, regrowth and their interplay. "Unmoored" (from biological facts) explores these themes during an important part of his gender transition and serves to document that experience.

The Alzheimer's Association will host a Memory Café at VCU Health Hub at 25th, 1330 N. 25th St. Join for a fun, social space for those with early-stage memory loss to connect, while care partners gain support and information. The bonds formed in Memory Cafés often last throughout the continuum of the disease and become additional support for those involved.

Lecture by Visiting Artist Kenneth Tam

VCU's Department of Sculpture and Extended Media will host a lecture by visiting artist Kenneth Tam at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St. Tam uses video, sculpture, installation, movement, performance and photography to examine themes including the performance of masculinity, the transformative potential of ritual and expressions of intimacy within groups. He often implicates the male body in his projects, using humor and pathos to reveal the performative and unstable nature of identity.

Prevention Resources and Education for Parents - and Caregivers (PREP)

The PREP program provides addiction treatment and behavioral health care. The program, administered by Caron, is designed for parents and caregivers of children in elementary, middle and high school. PREP covers youth trends, empowers parents and caregivers with effective communication skills, discusses how to set up clear rules and consequences regarding substance abuse, evaluates factors to help protect children from substance use and provides local resources. Cultivating Empathy in Youth Programs and Spaces

Timothy Zick, J.D., William & Mary Law School, has written on a variety of constitutional issues, with a special focus on the First Amendment, and is the author of many university press books on the subject. Aquatics Children’s Swim Lessons Spring Session 2
VCU RecWell offers children’s swim lessons for ages 6 months to 6 years, taught by certified water safety instructors under the American Red Cross program. The lessons, at the Aquatic Center, 121 S. Limited Submission Opportunity: Va. Opioid Abatement Authority (VOAA) Funding 2025 Cycle for State Agencies
VOAA invites state agencies to submit proposals for evidence-based initiatives addressing the opioid crisis. Funded projects should align with priority areas such as mobile crisis services, overdose reduction, treatment access, recovery supports and workforce development. VCU may submit one institutional proposal, coordinated through the Wright Center. Internal proposals should align with VOAA criteria and Quest 2028 goals, emphasizing research impact and community engagement. Awards range from $80K–$1.5M for projects up to five years. Real-World Adolescent Eating Patterns (REAL) Study
The Healthy Lifestyles Center is recruiting for the REAL study, a research study that uses a mobile app to learn more about what happens during adolescent mealtimes such as when and where teens eat, who they eat with and what they do while eating. Adolescents aged 12-16 who have a smartphone are eligible. Participants will be compensated for their time and effort.
