RealLife Film Series: 'Vaccination From the Misinformation Virus' and Discussion

During National Public Health Week, the VCU Health Sciences Library will host a screening of the film "Vaccination From the Misinformation Virus." The program provides an overview of how viruses spread, how they are contained and a brief history of vaccine development. Unburying Voices: Community-Engaged Reparative Justice

Join the VCU Health Humanities Lab's symposium, Unburying Voices: Community-Engaged Reparative Justice. The symposium will include presentations by East Marshall Street Well (EMSW) Project Family Representative Council members; Ana Edwards, interviewer for the EMSW Oral History Project; Health Humanities Lab undergraduate fellows; and a roundtable discussion with Carmen Foster and Stephanie Smith, Family Representative Council, East Marshall Street Well Project; Jazmin Benton, Sacharja Cunningham and Lex Wilson, Finding Ceremony, Philadelphia and Jessica Harris and DeTeasa Gathers, Descendants of Enslaved Communities at University of Virginia. The East Marshall Street Well Project at VCU addresses the discovery of human remains and artifacts from the 19th century found in an abandoned well on the MCV campus in 1994. The project aims to ensure the remains, primarily of African descent, receive appropriate study, memorialization and reburial, reflecting the dignity they were denied in life and death. Lecture by Visiting Artist Judith Schaechter

VCU's Department of Craft/Material Studies will present a visiting artist lecture by Judith Schaechter at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St. Schaechter is a Philadelphia-based artist known for her work in the medium of stained glass. Her pieces often use symbolism from stained glass and Gothic traditions, but the distorted faces and figures in her work recall a 20th-century German Expressionist painting style and her subject matter is secular.

Monument Avenue 10K Race
The Monument Avenue 10K will be held on Saturday, April 12. This event impacts most of the roads on the Monroe Park Campus with the exception of Cary, Main and Belvidere streets with closure and no parking zones. There will be no parking on West Franklin Street between North Laurel Street and North Belvidere Street starting at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 10. Some street closures will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 11. Broad and Grace streets will close early Saturday morning and all streets will reopen by 5 p.m. on Saturday at the latest. If traveling to or around the Monroe Park Campus on Friday or Saturday, plan your route accordingly and allow extra time. The best routes to campus are Main Sreet and Cary Street. RecWell OAP Summer Rock Climbing Road Trip
RecWell Outdoor Adventure Program’s beginner-friendly rock climbing road trip kicks off summer travel in the mountains of Virginia and West Virginia. Participants will explore iconic crags, hike, cool off in mountain streams and camp. No experience is needed. Trip cost includes food, transportation, equipment, camping accommodations and trip leaders. A trip interest meeting will be held Wednesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. at the Outing Rental Center, 130 S. Participants Are Invited for Study Examining the Impact of Acute and Chronic Stress on Cardiovascular Health
Individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as Black or African American are invited to participate in a research study examining the effect of acute and chronic stress on cardiovascular and inflammation responses to an acute mental challenge. Raffle drawings for financial compensation will be conducted. This study will take place at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Lee Franco, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.

This study is inviting individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as LGBTQ. We are also inviting individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as cis-gender heterosexual for the control group. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of chronic psychosocial stress and vascular inflammation to an acute mental challenge.
