RecWell OAP July Activities

RecWell’s Outdoor Adventure Program will host free activities in July. Activities include flatwater paddling on Wednesday, July 16. Sessions are open to VCU students and RecWell members. Spaces for all activities are limited, so register early. Register at the following URL.

Volunteer at Red Door Ministry

Volunteers are sought this summer for the Red Door Ministry at Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 8 N. Laurel St. Since the early 1980s, the church has served individuals experiencing hunger and homelessness. Started by the women of the congregation as a soup kitchen, the ministry has expanded to one of healing, hospitality and wholeness. Volunteers are asked to help set up, prepare and serve a meal. Grace and Holy Trinity is an open and affirming congregation and all are welcome to volunteer. Shifts are 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.. A meal is provided for volunteers. Participants Invited for Study Examining the Impact of Acute and Chronic Stress on Cardiovascular Health

Individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as Black or African American are invited to participate in a research study examining the effect of acute and chronic stress on cardiovascular and inflammation responses to an acute mental challenge. Raffle drawings for financial compensation will be conducted. This study will take place at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Lee Franco, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.

This study is inviting individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as LGBTQ. We are also inviting individuals between the ages of 18 and 30 who identify as cis-gender heterosexual for the control group. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of chronic psychosocial stress and vascular inflammation to an acute mental challenge. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Lee Franco, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.

The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of aerobic and resistance exercise on cardiovascular responses and vascular inflammation. A One-Time Interview To Understand the Experiences or Lack of Experience With Resistance Exercise ane Mobile Apps in Young Black Women

Black women ages 18-35 are invited to share their experiences or lack of experience with resistance exercise (e.g., lifting weights, resistance bands, body weight exercises) along with their desired features of a mobile app aimed to help guide and track their exercise regimens. Women will be invited to complete a one-time interview plus two surveys at a local library of their choice. Compensation is available. Check your eligibility at the following URL.
