Volunteer Opportunity: Carver Day of Service
8 a.m.
VCU Division of Community Engagement, VCU Police and Kiwanis Club will host Carver Days of Service at George Washington Carver Elementary School, 1110 W. Leigh St. Volunteers are invited to help beautify the school grounds on Wednesday, Aug. 6 and the following Wednesday, Aug. 13 with outdoor cleanup, mulching and planting in preparation for the coming school year. All ages are welcome. Bring water, gloves and sun protection. Tools and snacks will be provided.

New Fall '25 Online Classes: 'Black and Indigenous Ecologies' and 'Black Embodiment and Spatial Design'
Monday, Aug. 18, 2025 at 8 a.m.
Interior Design @ VCUarts is offering two interdisciplinary online classes in the arts to all majors this fall. IDES 391-003: Black Embodiment and Spatial Design examines how space enables possibilities of healing for Black embodiment through the works of Resmaa Menakem, Nap Bishop, Tricia Hershey, artist Theaster Gates, architect Craig Wilkin and others. IDES 391-004: Black and Indigenous Ecologies examines how we can create decolonial and community-oriented methods for architecture, urban design and art creation. Both classes are three credits and online synchronous; class spots are available.

RecWell Aquatics Adult Beginner Swim Lessons, Session 2
Adult Beginner lessons are designed for older teens and adults to build fundamental swimming and water safety skills. Participants should be comfortable in the water and will begin learning or improving basic swimming strokes and support techniques in both shallow and deep water. Session 2 will run Oct. 7-30. The Global Career Accelerator is a three-credit, online course offered by University College designed to help students build real-world experience, explore different careers and graduate with a portfolio that will actually get you noticed. Participants Invited for Study Examining the Impact of Exercise on Cardiovascular Health
This study is inviting individuals between the ages of 20 and 24 with poor sleep quality. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of aerobic and resistance exercise on cardiovascular responses and vascular inflammation. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Lee Franco, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences. Are You Expecting or Raising a Black Child Age 2 or Younger? Participants Invited for a Study on Parenting amd Race (Compensation Provided)
Be part of VCU's AYA Collective Research Team's ongoing study called ROOTED Endeavor. We're discussing racial socialization with romantically involved couples who are either expecting or raising Black children ages 0-2. Explore how racial factors shape parenting through five virtual interviews every six months involving both parents and brief online questionnaires every three months.
