Closing the Gap: Coping With Cancer Summit

Community members, researchers, students and trainees are invited to participate in the Closing the Gap Cancer Summit at Eastern Virginia Medical School. The event will focus on the emotional and psychological impacts of cancer and community-driven solutions for mental health support in cancer support systems. This free, half-day event is co-sponsored by the VA-ACCERT Center, a partnership between the VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center and Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Eastern Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion University. Participants Needed: Social Media Information Related to Perinatal Depression.
This study seeks adult participants who have given birth in the last 24 months and have experienced perinatal depression. A diverse set of participants are sought who are at least 18 years old and who access social media for information related to mental health. The purpose of this study is to understand birthing people’s use of social media for information related to perinatal depression. Participants may benefit from increased self-understanding. In-person focus groups will require approximately two hours and will be held at a location to be determined later. This study explores the connection between social media use and perinatal depression. The principle investigators are Mariam Alkazemi, Ph.D.; Susan Bodner-Deren, Ph.D.; and Bushra Shah, M.D. Its IRB protocol number is HM20029210.
