Blackbird Literary Podcast Launch Party
Friday, Aug. 15, 2025 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Join VCU's Creative Writing Department and Blackbird, an online journal for literature and the arts, for a celebratory launch of the Blackbird Literary Podcast’s debut episode. The event also marks the official welcome of the university's newest faculty members, Edgar Kunz and Devon Walker-Figueroa. The event will be at Shop Two Three (1437 Hull St.), with parking available just up the block at Studio Two Three. Beverages will be available for purchase. The evening will feature live performances from the podcast team and poetry readings by new faculty.

Residential Life and Housing Move-In Weekend
Friday, Aug. 15, 2025 at 9 a.m.
VCU Residential Life and Housing will hold its annual move-in weekend on Friday, Aug. 15 and Saturday, Aug. 16. Faculty, staff and students are needed to help unload vehicles, manage and push move-in carts and welcome the Class of 2029. The Student Organization Competition will return; the group with the greatest number of volunteers in each category will receive additional funds for their respective organization. RecWell Aquatics Adult Beginner Swim Lessons, Session 1
Adult beginner lessons are designed for older teens and adults to build fundamental swimming and water safety skills. Participants should be comfortable in the water and will begin learning or improving basic swimming strokes and support techniques in both shallow and deep water. Session 1 runs Sept. 8-Oct. 1. All RecWell facilities will be closed for staff to complete training before Fall semester and to allow for deep cleaning and maintenance to be completed. Participants Invited for Study Examining the Impact of Exercise on Cardiovascular Health
This study is inviting individuals between the ages of 20 and 24 with poor sleep quality. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of aerobic and resistance exercise on cardiovascular responses and vascular inflammation. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Lee Franco, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences. Risk-Taking in Eating Disorders Study
The Translational Research on Eating and Affect (TREAT) Lab is recruiting adolescents and young adults assigned female at birth (aged 12 to 25 years) for a brain imaging study to understand risky decision-making in individuals who have concerns about their body shape/weight, or overeat, purge, use laxatives, diet severely or exercise excessively. We are also investigating these processes in individuals without a psychological disorder. There will be compensation for participation.
