Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health Research Seminar

Robert Schwabe, M.D., a professor of medicine and director of the Digestive and Liver Disease Research Center at Columbia University, will present on "Hepatic Stellate Cells in Health and Disease.” His research focuses on the mechanisms that promote the progression of chronic liver disease, focusing on the development of liver injury, steatosis, inflammation and fibrosis in earlier stages and the role of fibrosis in the development of liver cancer in later stages. Courageous Conversations Virtual Workshop: Jewish Students, Belonging and Understanding Antisemitism
Wednesday, Mar. 4, 2026 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Designed for graduate students, this workshop examines contemporary manifestations of antisemitism and the needs and experiences of Jewish people on college campuses and beyond. Participants will explore how antisemitism may emerge overtly or covertly, even in spaces that are seemingly dedicated to belonging and inclusion, and the challenges such dynamics pose for educators, learners and practitioners. Participants will also consider how their own ideas and understandings of Jews and Judaism may impact their perceptions of antisemitism and interactions with Jewish people. The session will include dedicated time for questions and group discussion. Learn to plan, prepare and teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses. Lifeguarding Instructors play a critical role in ensuring the safety of aquatic facilities by providing thorough, consistent training to lifeguard staff. Participants Are Invited For Study Examining Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Exercise
This study is seeking individuals between the ages of 18 and 55 years who have PTSD or symptoms of PTSD. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of PTSD symptoms on blood vessel function during acute exercise and following exercise training. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Ryan Garten, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.

Participants Are Invited for Study Examining the Impact of Exercise on Cardiovascular Health
This research study is inviting individuals between the ages of 20 and 24 with poor sleep quality. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of aerobic and resistance exercise on cardiovascular responses and vascular inflammation. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Lee Franco, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.
