The Department of Sculpture + Extended Media will present a lecture by visiting artist Aki Sasamoto at the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center (ICA), 601 W. Broad St. Sasamoto works in sculpture, performance, video and more. In her installation/performance works, Sasamoto moves and talks inside the careful arrangements of sculpturally altered objects, activating bizarre emotions behind daily life.

The Annual Matilde Moros Guest Lecture: Transitioning Into Joy

'Between the Shadows and Sunshine' Faculty Recital
Wednesday, Mar. 18, 2026 at 7 p.m.
Flutist Tabatha Easley and pianist Daniel Stipe will present their flute and piano recital at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, 922 Park Ave. The program will feature works by Aram Khachaturian and Sergei Prokofiev, both written in the 1940s during a turbulent time in Soviet history. Thematic material in the music highlights lyricism and introspection, contrasted by extroverted sentiments and folk melodies. Tickets are $5 for VCU students $14 for the general public. RecWell Aquatics Adult Beginner Swim Lessons Session 2
Adult beginner lessons are designed for older teens and adults to build fundamental swimming and water safety skills. Vote for VCU in STAT Madness Through April 6
Research from VCU has made it into STAT Madness, the national bracket-style competition to determine the year’s best innovation in biomedical research. The competition features 64 of the most innovative biomedical research projects from across the United States, including VCU’s entry for helping premature infants breathe. Voting is now open through Monday, April 6. Those interested can vote once per day and can sign up to receive updates through STAT when each new round of voting begins.

Collaborating for a New Kind of Health
Redefining BMI is a research study at the VCU School of Public Health. Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of two programs to help manage their weight by making changes to eating and physical activity. Both programs involve attending virtual group-based sessions led by a trained lifestyle coach over the course of 12 months. This study also asks participants to attend in-person data collection visits before beginning the program, and then again at four, eight and 12 months.
