An Evening With Chris Burnside

Foundations of Alcohol Research Seminar: Sex Differences in Addiction

The VCU Alcohol Research Center will host the next seminar in the Foundations of Alcohol Research Seminar Series, a monthly informal lecture series for predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows and others interested in alcohol research. The VPGH Treatment and Recovery Model in Action

VCUarts AI Workshop: Custom Generative AI Model
Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Those who attend will be shown how to create a custom, copyright-free Generative AI model and how to use it in a creative project. Based on a model trained from Creative Commons data, those in the workshop will layer on custom user-defined data and create a Generative AI. The user-defined data will be sourced from a participating professor. The process of creating a custom Generative AI with ethical sources for creative use cases will be demonstrated. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop to follow along or to start the process themselves. Abstract Submissions Open: People-Based Medicine Conference

Submissions are open for student poster presentations at the People-Based Medicine conference. The conference is a joint undertaking focusing on health inequity as a critical disease in the U.S. – and preventive care as its cure. Students are invited to submit abstracts for research in a range of subjects, as long as they serve a purpose for advancing health care. This can include but is not limited to the sciences, philosophy, ethics, anthropology, sociology, economics or other areas. The conference will be held at the James W. and Frances G. McGlothlin Medical Education Center (MMEC), 1201 E. Marshall St. Registration for the conference is free, but students are responsible for printing and transporting their own posters. Participants Sought for Fine Motor Writing and Drawing Study
Monday, Mar. 9, 2026 at 9 a.m.
This research is being done to investigate how you learn new movements with your non-dominant hand. You will be asked to complete a tracing game on a touchscreen tablet while wearing an electrode cap. You must be right-handed, male and between the ages of 18 and 40 to participate. $20 compensation is available for your participation. The study takes about one hour. The study will take place in the research laboratory location in the VCU College of Health Professions building, 900 E. Leigh St.

Participants Are Invited For Study Examining Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Exercise
This study is seeking individuals between the ages of 18 and 55 years who have PTSD or symptoms of PTSD. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of PTSD symptoms on blood vessel function during acute exercise and following exercise training. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Ryan Garten, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.
