VCUarts AI Workshop: Custom Generative AI Model
Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Those who attend will be shown how to create a custom, copyright-free Generative AI model and how to use it in a creative project. Based on a model trained from Creative Commons data, those in the workshop will layer on custom user-defined data and create a Generative AI. The user-defined data will be sourced from a participating professor. The process of creating a custom Generative AI with ethical sources for creative use cases will be demonstrated. Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop to follow along or to start the process themselves. Conducting and Rehearsal Techniques Workshop
Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 at 9 a.m.
Hosted on the VCU campus, the Conducting and Rehearsal Techniques Workshop offers a two-day immersive experience for instrumental music educators and advanced collegiate musicians seeking to enhance their conducting and ensemble leadership skills. Participants will work directly with guest clinicians Don Scholfield of the U.S. Air Force Band and Terry Austin, Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education and Director Emeritus of Bands at VCU. Through interactive sessions, participants will conduct the VCU Wind Ensemble, receive individualized feedback from the clinicians and attend workshops designed to strengthen rehearsal effectiveness and instructional approaches. This professional development opportunity is geared for current music educators and upper-level collegiate students preparing for careers in music education. Sessions will be held in Room B40, W.E. Mindful Mornings: Sonic Meditation

Mindful Mornings is a free monthly series that pairs mindfulness practices with the architecture, landscape and exhibitions of the Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, 601 W. Broad St. Guided by designer and mindfulness practitioner Thurmond Alford Jr. and Michael Lease, Institute for Contemporary Art Director of Facilities + Experience Design, the series explores the link between nature, art and individual well-being. During this month’s session, Thurmond will teach participants to view the noises of the built environment as opportunities for intention and awareness. Participants Are Invited for Study Examining the Impact of Exercise on Cardiovascular Health
This research study is inviting individuals between the ages of 20 and 24 with poor sleep quality. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of aerobic and resistance exercise on cardiovascular responses and vascular inflammation. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principal Investigator: Lee Franco, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences. Risk-Taking in Eating Disorders Study
The Translational Research on Eating and Affect (TREAT) Lab is recruiting adolescent girls and young adult women (aged 12 to 25 years) for a brain imaging study to understand risky decision-making in individuals who have concerns about their body shape/weight, or overeat, purge, use laxatives, diet severely or exercise excessively. We are also investigating these processes in individuals without a psychological disorder. There will be compensation for participation.
