2026 Tech Challenge: Solving Social Problems With AI and Technological Innovation

The School of Social Work and VCU Common Book will present 2026 Tech Challenge: Solving Social Problems With AI and Technological Innovation. The event will be held in Room 4100, Academic Learning Commons, MCALC, 1000 Floyd Ave. Students will be divided into teams and provided with a social problem. They will then have 30 minutes to develop a solution using technology. They will then give a brief presentation on their solution and explain how it can help to work toward social justice. The hope is that as students think about the evolution of technology and how it changes society, they can also think about the change they can affect using it.

The Staff Distinction Awards recognize outstanding contributions made by School of Medicine staff members. They consist of five awards: Four Individual Excellence Awards, presented to a single recipient each, and one Excellence in Collaboration Award, presented to a team of two or more staff members. Yale University-Sponsored Opportunity for Tenured Faculty
Richmond Public Schools is working to establish a local teachers institute modeled after the nationally recognized Yale National Initiative, a professional development program that strengthens content knowledge for K-12 teachers. Recruiting for Psychology Study
A study in the Department of Psychology at VCU is recruiting participants to investigate the effects of alcohol use and mood within friendships. In this in-person experiment, you will bring a close friend from your real life to the laboratory session, complete several behavioral tasks and surveys. You may be randomly assigned to consume alcohol. The in-person portion of this study will not take longer than two hours to complete. You may earn either SONA credit or $20 USD. Participants Sought for Fine Motor Writing and Drawing Study
This research is being done to investigate how you learn new movements with your nondominant hand. You will be asked to complete a tracing game on a touchscreen tablet while wearing an electrode cap. You must be right-handed, male and between the ages of 18 and 40 to participate. $20 compensation is available for your participation. The study takes about one hour. Participants Are Invited For Study Examining the Impact of Cold Water Immersion on Symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
This study is seeking individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 years who have GAD or symptoms of GAD. The purpose of this research study is to examine the effect of cold water immersion on GAD symptoms with specific focus on blood vessel function. This study will be conducted at 500 Academic Centre on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus. Principle Investigator: Ryan Garten, Ph.D., Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences.
