Meditation for Recovery Group
12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Rams in Recovery welcomes students,faculty and staff to The Well on Mondays at noon for a Recovery Meditation Group. The purpose of this group is to enhance recovery from substance use, eating disorders, trauma and mental health challenges through meditation and support. All are welcome regardless of previous meditation experience or path to recovery.

Asian and Pacific Student Alliance: First General Body Meeting
8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Asian and Pacific Student Alliance holds its first general body meeting of the semester in the University Student Commons, Virginia Rooms C-D. The Asian and Pacific Student Alliance is an activist organization that focuses on amplifying Asian and Pacific Islander voices and issues within the community. Attendees will learn more about the organization and listen to the first dialogue.
Global Medical Training: First General Body Meeting of Spring 2017
8 p.m.
Global Medical Training holds its first general body meeting of the spring 2017 semester in West Grace Street Student Housing-North, Room 1030J. The winter break trip to Nicaragua will be discussed and a tripper panel will be featured to answer any questions members and future-trippers may have regarding abroad trips. Attendees will learn more about trips, fundraising and volunteer opportunities for the coming semester.

The Activities Programming Board presents "Stand Up Live" featuring kabobs and a game of jousting in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned food to help support Ram Pantry.
Latino Student Association: First General Body Meeting
Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017 at 7 p.m.
The Latino Student Association at VCU holds its first general body meeting in West Grace Street Student Housing-North, Room 1030J. Light refreshments will be provided.
RamTHON's THON Day
Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
RamTHON kicks off the countdown to RamTHON at THON Day in the University Student Commons, Virginia Rooms. Participants will learn more about RamTHON while having the opportunity to make crafts for the kids at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Various dance groups from around campus will be performing at 3 p.m.
Men of Color Discussion Group
Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs invites students to join its Men of Color Discussion Group. This group meets every other Wednesday from 3-4 p.m. in the University Student Commons, Metro Room. This group provides a safe space in which to discuss topics relevant to male students of color.

Black History Month Kick-Off

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) invites the VCU community to its inaugural Black History Month kickoff at the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, 122 W. Leigh St. The event will include song performances, a stepping performance by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and Virginia Union University's Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated and a keynote speech by Zoe Spencer, Ph.D.

LGBTQ+ Discussion Group

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs invites students to join its LGBTQ+ Discussion Group. This group meets every Thursday from 5-6 p.m. in the University Student Commons, Metro Room. This group serves as a safe space for all LGBTQ+ students to discuss topics that are related to them.

VCU Libraries, in concert with the School of the Arts, again presents a series for 2017 on the nuances of copyright for artists, designers and art scholars with Madelyn Wessel, university counsel. The two workshops will be held on Friday, Feb. 3, at noon in Cabell Library, Room 303, and on Friday, March 24, at noon in Cabell Library, Room 303. Jazz 4 Justice(TM) Concert
Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 at 8 p.m.
VCU Jazz Orchestra I and II holds a "Jazz for Justice" concert in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall featuring the Commonwealth Singers, poet and retired Virginia Supreme Court Justice John Charles Thomas, and guest conductor and NBC12 weathercaster Andrew Freiden. A reception will precede. Admission is $30 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. Proceeds will assist pro bono services and VCU Jazz scholarships. For tickets, visit the website below.

Follow Up to the President’s Forum on Social Justice and Spring Climate Survey
Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Office of the President and the Division for Inclusive Excellence present and discuss the feedback from the fall Presidential Forum on Social Justice, as well as the findings from the 2016 survey on campus climate. The first presentation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Egyptian Building, Baruch Auditorium. The second presentation will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Commons Theater.

2017 English Department Writing Awards
The Department of English welcomes undergraduate and graduate submissions in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction and academic essay in literary criticism for its annual writing awards. VCU LEAD: Applications Accepted
VCU LEAD accepts applications for the new class of VCU LEADers. VCU LEAD is a dynamic two-year living and learning program designed to help students hone leadership skills and gain the real world leadership experience needed to be successful when transitioning forward from VCU. LEADers have access to inspirational speakers, hands-on leadership experiences and engaging leadership courses that build students as leaders within the university and the community. Applications are due by Friday, Feb. 3.

Ram fans now have 26 VCU-themed emojis to choose from. The emojis feature VCU mascot Rodney the Ram slam-dunking a basket and cheering "Go Rams Go." The free emoji app gives iPhone® users free access to six Rodney the Ram emojis. The complete keyboard (26 emojis) is available for $1.99. Share Your Passion and Teach Through Discovery
The Mary and Frances Youth Center's Discovery program accepts class proposals for summer 2017. Discovery will be offering week-long career exploration classes focused on STEM, arts and health sciences for middle school youth from July 24 to Aug. 18. Faculty, staff and students are invited to become class instructors and internship opportunities are also available for students pursuing a career in education.
