The Department of Craft/Material Studies presents "Poetry and the Creative Process," a lecture and reading with Visiting Poet, Stu Kestenbaum, at The Depot. The director of the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts from 1988 until 2015, Kestenbaum has written and spoken widely on craft making and creativity, and his poems and writing have appeared in numerous small press publications and magazines. He was appointed Maine’s poet laureate in 2016.

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and VCU Libraries celebrate the 27th National African-American Read In in the University Student Commons, Common Ground. VCU faculty, staff, students and community members can share African-American literature related to or written by African and African-American authors. Attendees can stop by for a few hours or a few minutes to share original work, read the works of others or listen as others read. Featured readings are scheduled throughout the event, leaving hours of time for active participation. Sign-ups will be available in five minute increments. Acclaimed multi-genre fiction writer, Colson Whitehead, will present his latest book, the National Book Award-winning novel "The Underground Railroad, a haunting fusion of historical fiction and magical realism that tells the story of a pair of slaves who attempt to escape the South using an actual secret network of tunnels and tracks beneath the earth. The Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology at VCU Medical Center is conducting a research study to determine how a treatment for allergies affects certain immune cells called mast cells and basophils. Healthy volunteers are requested. The study will require participation for about 2 months, with up to 3 visits to our clinic. Volunteers will be compensated for their participation. Volunteers will be eligible if they are healthy adults between 18 and 65 years old and have seasonal allergy symptoms. Volunteers will not be eligible if they are currently receiving allergy shots, have certain medical conditions, or if they or their partner are pregnant.
