Study Abroad Spring Fair
10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Global Education Office hosts the Study Abroad Spring Fair in Shafer Court Dining Center, Rodney's Lounge. Students can meet study abroad program providers, other students who have studied abroad and representatives from various offices at VCU that assist with the study abroad process. Ten students will receive a $1,000 study abroad award. Attendees can discuss options to study abroad this summer or next fall.

'COBE Connect: 7 Years of Spit'
12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
The College Behavioral and Emotional Health Institute (COBE) presents a talk titled "7 Years of Spit: An Update and Overview of the Spit for Science Study" featuring Danielle Dick, Ph.D., in the University Student Commons, Alumni Board Room. Lunch will be provided and no R.S.V.P. is required.

VCUarts 'Visiting Poet Lecture': Stu Kestenbaum
2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The Department of Craft/Material Studies presents "Poetry and the Creative Process," a lecture and reading with Visiting Poet, Stu Kestenbaum, at The Depot. The director of the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts from 1988 until 2015, Kestenbaum has written and spoken widely on craft making and creativity, and his poems and writing have appeared in numerous small press publications and magazines. He was appointed Maine’s poet laureate in 2016.

Follow Up to the President’s Forum on Social Justice and Spring Climate Survey
6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Office of the President and the Division of Inclusive Excellence present and discuss the feedback from the fall Presidential Forum on Social Justice, as well as the findings from the 2016 survey on campus climate. The first presentation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Egyptian Building, Baruch Auditorium. The second presentation will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Commons Theater.
Activities Programming Board: 'Paint with a Twist'
7 p.m.
The Activities Programming Board holds a paint night hosted by Wine by Design in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons. There will be mocktails as well as an artist pack giveaway. One person will win canvases, a paint brush set, acrylic paints and a VCU hat.

'Learning How to Share by Using Open Science Framework'

The C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research and Tompkins-McCaw Library present the next session of the lunch research seminars, "Learning How to Share: Using Open Science Framework" in Tompkins-McCaw Library, Room 109. Margaret Henderson, director, Research Management Management, Tompkins-McCaw Library, will discuss how to use Open Science Framework to meet federal data sharing requirements and support research collaborations. Participants can bring lunch; drinks will be provided.

'Searching with Ease: A Guide to Effective and Efficient Searches'

VCU Libraries hosts a Medical Library Association webinar in Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences, Room 2010. Terry Ann Jankowski, one of the preeminent educators on expert searching, guides novice and intermediate searchers on how to conduct any search with ease. Participants will learn how to translate search requests into strategies, identify the right steps and tools for the request and themselves and use their results to refine strategies.

VCU African-American Read In
Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and VCU Libraries celebrate the 27th National African-American Read In in the University Student Commons, Common Ground. VCU faculty, staff, students and community members can share African-American literature related to or written by African and African-American authors. Attendees can stop by for a few hours or a few minutes to share original work, read the works of others or listen as others read. Featured readings are scheduled throughout the event, leaving hours of time for active participation. Sign-ups will be available in five minute increments. VCU Libraries will provide a selection of literary works to read and/or check out. A light lunch will be served at noon.

VCU Community Health Education Center Program: Light Exercise

The VCU Community Health Education Center hosts a program on exercise at the center, VCU Medical Center, Gateway Building, Ground Floor. Carrie Baines, wellness coordinator, VCU Recreational Sports, will discuss the health benefits of regular exercise and lead participants through light exercises that can be done at a desk at work. VCU Libraries 15th Annual Black History Month Lecture: 'The Underground Railroad' by Colson Whitehead

VCU Libraries presents the 15th annual Black History Month Lecture: "The Underground Railroad" by Colson Whitehead in Cabell Library, Lecture Hall. Acclaimed multi-genre fiction writer, Colson Whitehead, will present his latest book, the National Book Award-winning novel "The Underground Railroad, a haunting fusion of historical fiction and magical realism that tells the story of a pair of slaves who attempt to escape the South using an actual secret network of tunnels and tracks beneath the earth. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

'Careers in the Commons': Clark County Public Schools

VCUarts: 'The Future is Calling' Exhibition

Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology Research Study
The Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology at VCU Medical Center is conducting a research study to determine how a treatment for allergies affects certain immune cells called mast cells and basophils. Healthy volunteers are requested. The study will require participation for about 2 months, with up to 3 visits to our clinic. Volunteers will be compensated for their participation. Volunteers will be eligible if they are healthy adults between 18 and 65 years old and have seasonal allergy symptoms. Volunteers will not be eligible if they are currently receiving allergy shots, have certain medical conditions, or if they or their partner are pregnant.
