VCUarts 'Visiting Artist Lecture': Roberto Lugo
5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
VCUarts presents its "Visiting Artist Lecture" featuring Roberto Lugo, an American potter, social activist, spoken word poet and educator, in the Commons Theater. Lugo's work draws together hip-hop, history and politics into formal ceramics and 2D works. Born in Philadelphia to Puerto Rican parents, Lugo began his career as a graffiti artist before discovering ceramics.

Muslim Students Association: Aqeedah and The Quran
6 p.m.
The Muslim Students Association at VCU holds its first Friday Halaqah of the year in Harris Hall, Room 2129. This Islamic lecture will be led by Hamdi Abdeen, VCU alumni, and will be an introduction to understanding the Quran and Aqeedah.
The Activities Programming Board: Weekly Movies
7 p.m.
The Activities Programming Board presents a screening of "Bad Boys" at 7 p.m. and "Men In Black" at 9:30 p.m. in the Commons Theater. Movies will also be shown on Saturday, Feb. 4, with "Bad Boys" starting at 7 p.m. and "Men In Black" at 9:30 p.m. in the Commons Theater.
Jazz 4 Justice(TM) Concert
8 p.m.
VCU Jazz Orchestra I and II holds a "Jazz for Justice" concert in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall featuring the Commonwealth Singers, poet and retired Virginia Supreme Court Justice John Charles Thomas, and guest conductor and NBC12 weathercaster Andrew Freiden. A reception will precede. Admission is $30 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. Proceeds will assist pro bono services and VCU Jazz scholarships. For tickets, visit the website below.

Chili’s at VCU: Official Men’s Basketball Away Game Watch Parties
Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at 4 p.m.
This February, Chili's at VCU hosts the official Men's Basketball game watch parties. The complete schedule is Saturday, Feb. 4, at 4 p.m. versus Bonaventure; Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 9 p.m. versus George Washington; Friday, Feb. 17, at 9 p.m. versus University of Richmond; and Saturday, Feb. 25, TBA versus Rhode Island. Fans can catch the HAVOC on each of Chilis' nine TVs and take advantage of specials like the $5 game-day burger. Attendees are encouraged to wear VCU gear for free giveaways and prizes. This symposium is meant to bring scholars, community organizers, youth and artists together to discuss the topic of racial disproportionality in school discipline and the relationship with the school to prison pipeline.

Follow Up to the President’s Forum on Social Justice and Spring Climate Survey
Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Office of the President and the Division for Inclusive Excellence present and discuss the feedback from the fall Presidential Forum on Social Justice, as well as the findings from the 2016 survey on campus climate. The first presentation will be on Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Egyptian Building, Baruch Auditorium. The second presentation will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Commons Theater.
'Learning How to Share by Using Open Science Framework'

The C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research and Tompkins-McCaw Library present the next session of the lunch research seminars, "Learning How to Share: Using Open Science Framework" in Tompkins-McCaw Library, Room 109. Margaret Henderson, director, Research Management Management, Tompkins-McCaw Library, will discuss how to use Open Science Framework to meet federal data sharing requirements and support research collaborations. VCU African-American Read In
Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and VCU Libraries celebrate the 27th National African-American Read In in the University Student Commons, Common Ground. VCU faculty, staff, students and community members can share African-American literature related to or written by African and African-American authors. Attendees can stop by for a few hours or a few minutes to share original work, read the works of others or listen as others read. Featured readings are scheduled throughout the event, leaving hours of time for active participation. Sign-ups will be available in five minute increments. VCU Libraries will provide a selection of literary works to read and/or check out. A light lunch will be served at noon.

'Social Media: A Predator's Recruitment Tools'
Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice at VCU and ImPACT present "Social Media: A Predator's Recruitment Tools" in the Commons Theater. During this lecture conducted by Deanna Wallace, Homeland Security, participants will learn how social media and technology play a role in facilitating human trafficking.

Commonwealth of Virginia Alzheimer's Grant: Applications Accepted
The VCU Virginia Center on Aging accepts grant applications through Monday, April 3, for the Alzheimer's and Related Diseases Research Award Fund. Applications must be affiliated with colleges or universities, research institutes or other not-for-profit organizations located in Virginia. Awards are limited for $45,000 each. A non-binding letter of intent is required by Friday, March 10. Application forms, guidelines and further information about preparing the letter of intent are available by visiting the website below.

VCU's New Financial Support for Affordable Textbooks
VCU Libraries, the Office of the Provost, the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence and the ALT Lab partner to award faculty who adopt or create free or low cost alternatives to expensive textbooks. A series of informational workshops about the program will be held on Friday, Feb. 3, at noon in the Academic Learning Commons, Suite 4102; Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 12:30 p.m. in the Academic Learning Commons, Suite 4102; Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 12:30 p.m. in the Academic Learning Commons, Suite 4102; and Wednesday, Feb. 15, at noon in Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences, Lecture Room 2-01.

'Give it a Tri!': VCU Rec Sports Triathlon Training Program
Rec Sports offers the Tri-Training program, a fitness incentive program where each participant's goal is to complete a triathlon over the course of five weeks. Participants will work at their own pace and track progress through mileage accumulated during individual workouts, classes and lessons. Free options for Tri-Training includes U.S. Masters swim practices, weekly workouts on the pool deck and indoor cycling classes. No previous triathlon experience is necessary.
