Central Virginia SoCRA Chapter Meeting
5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research invites the VCU community to attend a presentation by Meghan Wright, research subjects protection educator, Office of Research and Innovation, titled, "The New Final Common Rule: How Will This Affect Research?" in the Critical Care Hospital, First Floor, Room 304. Participants will identify the new changes to the Final Common Rule, apply the changes to research and understand the differences of the New Rule compared to the previous Common Rule.
'Pariah' Screening and Panel Discussion
7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The Wellness Resource Center and Office of Multicultural Student Affairs host a screening of "Pariah" followed by a panel discussion in the University Student Commons, Forum Room, in honor of Black History Month. The intersectionality of race, sexuality and gender expression will be highlighted through the screening. The movie shares the perspective of a lesbian woman of color. A panel discussion with LGBTQIA+ people of color will follow the screening. Snacks will be provided.
VCUarts Langston Hughes Project Jazz Montage: A Multimedia Concert Performance
8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
VCU Music puts on a concert by The Langston Hughes Project and Ron McCurdy in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. The multimedia concert with trumpeter Ron McCurdy’s jazz quartet focuses on Hughes's jazz poem "Ask Your Mama," his homage in verse and music to the struggle for artistic and social freedom at home and abroad at the beginning of the 1960s. Free admission. This event is funded by the VCUarts Inclusion Infusion Initiative.

Faculty Workshop on Affordable Texts; Stipends Offered
Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
VCU Libraries holds a workshop in Cabell Library, Room 205, for faculty concerned about the high cost of textbooks to explore alternatives. Seating is limited and attendees who write a short review will receive a $200 stipend. Interested faculty and instructors must apply to be considered for a stipend, but all are invited to attend the session.

TheatreVCU: 'A Time to Kill'

TheatreVCU presents "A Time to Kill" from Feb. 16-26 at the Singleton Center for the Performing Arts. Directed by David Leong, fight director for the 2013 original Broadway production, "A Time to Kill" is the story of an African-American man put on trial for the murder of two white men who savagely beat and raped his ten-year-old daughter. Based on John Grisham's novel, this race-charged courtroom drama has all the power of the film featuring Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson and Matthew McConaughey.

Suicide Prevention Walk

Chi Sigma Iota is working with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to present its second "Out of the Darkness Campus Walk" to VCU. The walk will start and end at the Compass. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people ages 15-24. Participants will support each other as they work to put an end to suicide at VCU. To register, visit the webpage below.

Virginia Commonwealth University's May Commencement exercises take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, at the Richmond Coliseum, 601 E. Leigh St. Faculty participating in the ceremony will wear academic apparel. Regalia must be ordered by Friday, April 14.

Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology Research Study
The Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology at VCU Medical Center is conducting a research study to determine how a treatment for allergies affects certain immune cells called mast cells and basophils. Healthy volunteers are requested. The study will require participation for about 2 months, with up to 3 visits to our clinic. Volunteers will be compensated for their participation. Volunteers will be eligible if they are healthy adults between 18 and 65 years old and have seasonal allergy symptoms. Volunteers will not be eligible if they are currently receiving allergy shots, have certain medical conditions, or if they or their partner are pregnant.
