'Fear 2 Freedom' Celebration Event
4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Wellness Resource Center hosts the "Fear 2 Freedom" celebration event at the Larrick Student Center. Participants will build a community of support for survivors of sexual assault and help make "after care kits" for survivors who receive medical care due to violence. The kits include a teddy bear, clothes, a note of encouragement and other items.
VCUarts Hosts Ableton Workshop: Music Making Presentations
6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
VCUarts Kinetic Imaging Department hosts Ableton Workshop at The Depot. The Ableton University Tour is a series of free music-making events taking place at university campuses across the U.S. during March and April. Open to students, faculty and staff as well as to the general public, these presentations offer inspiration to music-makers whether they are just starting out or are an experienced musician. VCU Jazz Orchestra II presents "Salsa for Social Change" featuring percussionist John Santos, professor Tony Martucci, and vocalists Rei Alvarez, Ophelia Anwah and Timika Garnes, in the Sonia Vlahcevic Concert Hall. The Activities Programming Board invites the VCU community to show off their vocals with a night filled with karaoke in the University Student Commons, Commonwealth Ballroom. Participants can sing their favorite songs and enjoy a night out with fellow Rams. There will be a house DJ, buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks and a taco and fajita bar.

'Slamnesty: Slam Poetry for Human Rights'
Thursday, Mar. 23, 2017 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Amnesty International at VCU presents "Slamnesty," an open-mic night in the University Student Commons, Virginia Room A, featuring a gathering of poets, artists, musicians and anyone who wishes to share experiences. Focus will be placed on the amnesty campaign, "The America I Believe In," which addresses the climate of fear and hate that is sweeping the nation and how the actions of public figures and the media could have disastrous consequences for human rights.

The 32nd Annual Brown-Lyons Lecture: 'Jews and Booze: Becoming American in the Age of Prohibition' by Marni Davis

VCU Libraries, Friends of VCU Libraries, VCU Center for Judaic Studies, Jewish Community Federation of Richmond, Richmond Jewish Foundation and the Weinstein JCC sponsor the 32nd annual Brown-Lyons Lecture, featuring Marni Davis, associate professor of history, Georgia State University, discussing her book "Jews and Booze: Becoming American in the Age of Prohibition" in Cabell Library, Lecture Hall. This book discusses the involvement of Jews in the trafficking of alcohol during Prohibition and how this involvement enflamed anti-Semitism. This event is free and open to all. Virginia Commonwealth University's May Commencement exercises take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, at the Richmond Coliseum, 601 E. Leigh St. Faculty participating in the ceremony will wear academic apparel. Regalia must be ordered by Friday, April 14.

Third Annual Student Excellence in Interprofessionalism Recognition Award: Call for Nominations
The Center for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Care seeks nominations for the Student Excellence in Interprofessionalism Recognition Award, established in 2015. The Center is accepting nominations for full-time students graduating in 2017 until close of business day on Friday, April 7. Faculty are encouraged to nominate deserving students, as well as to encourage students to self-nominate. Since the inaugural ceremony, students from Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, College of Humanities and Sciences and Social Work have been recognized. This award serves to recognize full-time VCU students who have demonstrated significant involvement and interest in promoting interprofessional activities.

Library Quality Survey Opens Tuesday, March 21
Building on its history of improving services through better understanding of users' needs and preferences, VCU Libraries is conducting a quality survey. The online survey opens Tuesday, March 21, and should take 5-10 minutes to complete. The subject line will read: "Share your ideas to improve VCU Libraries." All faculty are in the sample and their voices are critical to the libraries' planning and decision-making.
