The School of World Studies International Studies Program presents a teach-in in the Academic Learning Commons, Room 2201, examining the plight of Syrian refugees from two philosophical paradigms - one of Immanuel Kant’s "Perpetual Peace" and the concept of "Hospitality"; and second through the intersectionality of Michel Foucault’s biopolitics of "Live and Let Die." The discussion is part of research on the persecution of homosexuals, the enslavement of Yazidi women, the plight of Syrian refugees and the trafficking of vulnerable persons. This was made possible by research grants from VCU’s Humanities Research Center and Global Education Office.
